Q: How do the clothes I am wearing affect a slip and fall?

A: The clothes that you are wearing usually do not have any effect on the slip and fall. However, the clothes you are wearing can provide valuable information as to what caused you to fall. Many times when you slip and fall, it’s either wet marks or grease marks that leave stains on the clothes and you should take pictures of those. You should not wash those clothes. You should not clean those clothes, especially if it’s something that leaves a permanent imprint. If it’s just water, you should try to get a picture of it if possible, although a lot of times you’re not thinking about getting a picture at the time, but if in fact, you’ve fallen and it’s grease, you do not want to wash or clean that or discard it. We want to have it tested. Your lawyer will want to have that tested so he can prove what it is that caused you to slip and fall.
